The Holdovers is an absolute gem of a movie. You will love! American Fiction is good, too. You must also watch Zone of Interest. Chillingly good.

What a great way to start the weekend- such a great read today… I mean it always is.

I’m thinking of the renting route… saw the lady who started byrotation at a talk… renting can be quite lucrative as well as finding a special outfit…but there is still something that makes me nervous… I don’t buy second hand books or use the library either… imagine the holidays I’d go on if I did!!!

Well I’ve watched quite a few of Oscar movies but American Fiction I was pleasantly surprised with. Very good and different x

Thank you. I am curious what was your method of finding these properties? Simple google search or did you use some specialized realtor services? I lately stayed in Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) and wrote some substack material about it. I searched substack and stumbled at your post. I must say the Cape Verde villa you show, stands out from the housing standard I've seen. In other words, I would think that going to places searching for a property locally could reveal many more interesting options available, cheaper and not even listed online.

Ever thought of running a once a month thrift shop and coffee stop tour of York? If you do, I’d be up for it. Could create a nice little community of like minded magpies.

Oh gawd these properties really are a dream - I am a bit older than you and I have done the downsize and could have bought one but didn't!! I just didn't want the responsibility, the travel, I hate airports, I find the idea of owning another car in another country just really stressful, looking after a pool... Gawd I am such a killjoy!! Except I am honestly not - I am quite a laugh actually - friends will confirm (not sure if they are laughing at me or with me?) I am honestly just so contented in my little house in my little village, I can travel as much as I want (within reason) and go wherever I want, I don't have to keep going back to that house in Spain, France, or wherever... But I CAN see the joy, maybe I should just do it one day - maybe I will?? You are definitely rattling my cage!!

I have literally spent my life dreaming of living in the sun and live for it. I am already panicking at the thought of how to cope come October when the doom and gloom hits! I also grew up with great memories of Eurocamps in the South of France and Mallorcan holidays care of my mum having a boss with a rental villa. My husbands parents have an apartment in Malaga but I've not been since Lockdown 😒. WHEN the time is right it will probably be Mallorca, Majorca for me. Love your posts but REALLY loved this one xx

Your childhood exoerience in Hong Kong sounds amazing! I'm with you Lisa re the sunshine, it's a huge mood lifter. For me, the grey skies and rain really affect how I feel. I live in Provence and even when it's freezing cold in the winter, most of the time the skies are a gorgeous shade of blue.

We also lived in Andalusia for two years and it had a similar effect. I'm definitely drawn to the warmer climates. My favs on your list are the French and Spanish properties - they have so much character. And a pool always gets a big thumbs up.

In fact - maybe I'm drawn more towards the Malaga property as there's no work to be done. We're in a doer-upper in France and it's more complicated than I'd imagined it would be.

Where would be your ideal location to move to?
