All so true..... I'd say 'ignore all the other parents' is at the heart of parenting advice. They're not telling the truth!

And "Your child will still grow up to be a creative adult even if you refuse point blank to allow finger painting, Playdoh or Hama beads into your house because you don’t want a) the mess or b) the hassle." is the best. I hated all of that - my daughter went on to get an art scholarship, read History of Art and is now an interior designer. With no play doh or poetry painting.

Even now the word crafting is enough to put the fear of god into me. And glitter!! That killed me. Also, that’s why you send them to nursery and school, so that they can do all that there. Thanks so much for reading Jo - happy Saturday 💫

Brilliant. We literally have the same children 😂

The books! I struggle so much with… got rid of so many of the eldest children’s but still got some sad literally unopened brand new books gathering dust on the youngest’s (16 year old) shelf, in the hope he may bounce home and start reading them all. I may as well ship them off to the charity shop now, they’ve done their time… 🤦🏼‍♀️

Ha! They are all the same. But also I quite like the lack of conforming to the norm as I think that actually shows individuality! Randomly my (dyslexic) daughter has now started reading Coleen Hoover at the age of 22 so there is hope for all! She stockpiled those Rainbow Fairy books for years and never read a single one of them.

Omg allll of this. I was reading them out to my partner and remembering similar things. The yelling of profanities during the Xbox phase!! I kinda miss it now they’ve both moved out 😂🤍

Haha yes the yelling 😂 max is about to go back off to uni so I will only have one again so the yelling will continue indefinitely 🙄 thanks for reading! Have a lovely Sunday xx

Definitely relate to all this Lisa. I would add not to believe the “you only get 18 summers” nonsense. My three grown up boys (plus partners) are still very much enjoying their summer breaks with us in Pembrokeshire or their all inclusive holidays as we call them!

Haha yes I should do a late teen version where you realise that they will be basically be coming on holiday with you forever especially if you’re paying 😂 thanks so much for reading and have a super day! Xx

Your Instagram account regularly brings me much joy, but this post is absolutely bang on the money, brilliantly relatable, and quite emotional. Whilst also bringing me huge relief that other people’s teenagers (and beyond) can’t make an item of crockery reach as far as the dishwasher, either! I loved this. Thank you so much x

I laughed out loud reading this! So, so true 🤣 I also have 3 grown up children, but I’m 10 years ahead of you, and 54 years old, so started quite young. What you may yet discover about parenthood is that they do indeed leave home, and the tidiness is bliss. The shopping bill is amazingly small. They are much missed. But then…2 of mine came back, youngest (25) after uni and oldest (32) after travelling, working, renting and now trying to buy a house (so my husband and I have an extra house guest…her partner) so back to an empty fridge, lights on all over the house, messy bathrooms, and wet towels for us! Hard work but we love them 😩😂

Yes I like to think that they will go into the world and not return but I know the likelihood of this is small 😂 each stage has its own joys though I think. I loved them all! And continue to enjoy them, especially now they are so much fun too. Thanks for reading! Xx
