What has been getting me through this sunny June. Embroidered beauty, graphic t shirts, escaping to the sun, weed fumes, no recipe salads, Lily Allen, good teeth, Pilates mirrors and Kevin Keegan.
I feel exactly like you about politics… what an utter shambles it all is. The outcry from labour when BJ was ‘coronated’ without an election… yet here we are.
I also dream of leaving the country, and have told my husband I won’t stay if Farage gets into no 10. (He snorts and says that won’t happen… but he said that about BJ.) He disgusts me. Have you seen the BBC 2 parter on Brexit? Not a single person from any party or persuasion emerges with any credit whatsoever. They are all smug and self-serving and treat the whole thing (still! After 10 years of chaos!) as a monopoly game.
We’ve had this discussion too. We also thought Norway as husband works for Norwegian business. Generally hoping and praying I don’t have to add this unbearable level of life admin to my to do list but we have two daughters and I’m not letting them stick around for the archaic nonsense reform plan to implement.
I do enjoy your Saturday smorgasbords; the variety of treats are very appealing. I was particularly drawn to the embroideries you shared. But what I really like is the sense of autonomy I get from you. Here is a woman in her prime, doing her thing, with confidence and joy, unencumbered by the martyrdom of marriage.
Not all wives are martyrs of course, but it's a challenge not to assume the role of second fiddle and women are notoriously fabulous at spinning all the plates.
You come across as the 'leading lady and not the best friend'.
Brava you! And if that was on a white t shirt, I'd buy it. X
Thank you Kathleen! I really do feel as if this a great time to be in your fifties. And yes, the embroidery is just wonderful - I fell down a rabbit hole with the first beach scene, just really astonishing work. Have a fabulous weekend!
Morning. I really enjoyed this month’s and the salad ideas are great! Thanks for pointing me in Alex’s direction too, what a joy indeed. Have a great weekend x
Oh honestly, Alex's posts are just wonderful! And thank you, they are madly simple and just basically what I have in fridge but they're perfect for eating in the hot weather and also feel vaguely healthy, ha! Have a super weekend xx
Morning Lisa, happy Saturday. Thunderstorms last night in Northumberland much needed after the claggy heat! I have the original film poster for Gregory's Girl seeing as my surname is Gregory 😁 definitely going to give those Suri toothbrushes ago. Extraction on Tuesday 😬😅 Best decision ever subscribing to your substack. I love your writing, recommendations, honesty and all round loveliness xxx
Thanks for an entertaining post as usual. I love Loel and bought a few things a while ago including the fish necklace which is great. I then discovered the owner is the mother of a school friend of my granddaughter’s, so enjoyed buying from a local business. The summersale discount got me back in and I have purchased more 🫣That bracelet looks fabulous! Also had to go for the tomato balsamic but decided to go directly to the supplier and bought a discovery box incl the balsamic. Perfect for summer salads as you say! Happy weekend!
Oh her jewelry is just so good isn't it? And love that she's a small business too. Now I am going to google the supplier, discovery box has my name all over it! Happy weekend!
Oh, this was a nice read on a Saturday morning! Aaw, that music video of This Time (We’ll get it right) brought back many memories (I was in love with Kenny Sansom in 1982). English soccer has always been very popular in Norway. My uncle married an English woman in 1983, and we went to London for the first time for the wedding. We looked everywhere for famous soccer players, and believe it or not, met Ray Wilkins in Hyde Park and got an autograph, haha. We bought the single record This Time at HMV, even visited Highbury after writing a letter asking to see the stadium. We got to see everything from the wardrobes (were even given used shirts from the laundry basket to take home) to playing football on the grass. Good luck at the world cup and happy Saturday! I ordered the perfect T-shirt (the one without the swearing, haha), by the way!!!
Ahh Lisa!! You definitely should've come and said hello! Haha. It was a lovely day out, too. Hope your kids are looking forward to a great season ahead!
Ha I almost did but then it would have been obvious that I was listening to your convo hahah. Yes, my sons are lifelong obsessives, my 22 year old has WAWAW tattooed on his groin. That's the sort of level we are talking about.
A brilliant read as always Lisa. It really is my most favourite thing to do on a Saturday morning. First clean all the house (not my favourite thing!) then I make a coffee and luxuriate in your words admiring my clean house lol!
We have ummed and ahhhed about buying a little bolthole in Corfu but we keep thinking, do we really want to be in a little mountain village a bit cut off (thats the only types we can afford ha) or spend the same money for the next 15 years enjoying wine on our balcony just a few steps from the sea eating in different tavernas every night?
Arillas is our piece of heaven by the way if anyone fancies a truly Mama Mia-esque chilled hol!
Ooh I am going to google that right now! And yes, I totally get this. These places ARE very all out of the way, really, and in an ideal world you'd be a bit central. In the meantime, we can keep visiting as much as possible! I cannot wait to go to Crete this year.
Great post as always. So I bought a SURI, thank you for the discount - a new toothbrush with regular replacement brush heads for £82! Fabulous. Excited to receive my new brush, my dentist recommended it too 😊
Love the houses abroad, I’m tempted too. My son and his partner are moving to Lisbon in August so retirement to the Algarve seems very tempting.
Thank you for a great start to the weekend. Hope you have a great one too 😊 x
Are they! How exciting for them. And yes, SURI are really very good indeed. They have transformed my family's brushing habits! Happy weekend Debianne xxx
Pull and Bear is massively underrated I think. I've got the other one I mentioned on today from there with a white vest under it and it's so cool to wear. Happy weekend! xx

I’m thinking Norway…
❤️
I haven't seen it but I'll add to my list. The whole situation is just deeply dismal.

The idea of kids growing up in a Farage led society just hugely freaks me out.
Hello over there in York.

I absolutely loved Gregory’s Girl and the soundtrack!
It was so of the era!

Ha this is an amazing story Tove! What an experience. And I love that t shirt, it makes me laugh so much! Happy weekend xx
Loved all this Lisa and can’t wait to hear about Marrakesh. You are a way better Lonely Planet info person !!
Worry not I will do a full write up with the complete low down! I can't wait.
Ahh Lisa!! You definitely should've come and said hello! Haha. It was a lovely day out, too. Hope your kids are looking forward to a great season ahead!

Haha, we're all earwigging some of the time anyway! It's practically my job!
That's superb - please give them my best!

Oh a pleasure Alex I honestly adore your substack! Very joyous indeed xxx

Another lovely read as ever Lisa. Thank you for sharing. And I love everything you’ve done to your house.
Thank you so much Annie! Happy weekend xx
Morning! Really enjoyed this one, thank you! And I ordered the Pull and Bear dress- proper bargain. Have a good day 🎈
Pull and Bear is massively underrated I think. I've got the other one I mentioned on today from there with a white vest under it and it's so cool to wear. Happy weekend! xx
The line “It’s far more fun being a spurned ex wife than I ever anticipated” is pure gold.
You’ve reminded me of a glass bead necklace I bought in Capri, years and years ago. I love it so much I never wear it. That will change immediately.
