Good morning, and as you read this I will be about to depart on EasyJets finest to Lisbon, complete with my one small bag beneath seat and one measured hand luggage above (no hold luggage, mostly as I refused to pay for it as it would have almost doubled the flight price). If we, as a family, manage to meet this criteria successfully it will be an absolute bloody MIRACLE, I tell you. Usually, there is the terrible fear as we approach the check in desk with our hold luggage, knowing that there is not a chance in hell that it will be under the specified 22 kilos. The amount of toiletry weight alone could usually tick this box, but this time, we are travelling light.

We’re going for five days, to celebrate the 80th birthday of my mum, Sue, with the rest of my immediate family. All 17 of us, including my nephew Gabriel who lives in Tenerife. I KNOW. If we all survive, it will be a miracle but we are actually very much looking forward to it - I think the last time we all gathered together in the same place at the same time was 16 years ago, when Leo wasn’t even born. We’ve rented a house an hour out of Lisbon set in acres of farm in complete isolation, with the redeeming feature that if we do argue, no one will be able to hear us. I will keep you all updated over on Instagram if you follow me there, and a write up of the 24 hours we’ll be spending seeing as much as we can of Lisbon will be en route here on my Substack shortly.

Right, back into action and this week we are chatting narrow hallway and landing decor and how to make the very most of the space. What to do with inherited wardrobes that you can’t afford to replace, and how to hide the abundance of tech wires in your living room (my own living hell). And finally, sticking stuff up without Blu Tack residue and whether or not it’s possible to create timeless interior decor.
