As you read this, we will be returning home from our holiday on the night plane of hell. There is not a lot worse from a holiday perspective than arriving back into the country at 3am but I am not complaining - I LOVE a holiday, as do my family. It’s the one time that we are all together in one place for any time longer than a quick meal and the only place that there isn’t bountiful technology to distract everyone. Anyone with teenage kids will know the utter ridiculous happiness gained from watching them play Uno or throw a ball around in the pool after long dark months of X Box and Playstation lock in. It’s basically like weaning them off Class A drugs but on the positive side, they’ve gone through withdrawal and detox by the time we’ve reached the airport due to the excitement of checking into the lounge. Can I have a holiday every month, please?

Anyway, this week my mum is coming to visit so I have plenty of activities planned to beat those post holiday blues. My mum REALLY likes to shop. Not just a little browse, but in an Imelda Marcos kind of way. Her obsession has always been white t shirts of which she has a collection to rival David Beckhams wardrobe. Long sleeved, short sleeved, vests - if it comes in white, my mum will pop it in the basket. I’m intending to attempt to distract her from the shops by whisking her off to the Lavender Farm (yes, it’s all going down here in Yorkshire) and possibly for a scone. Will report activities on my Instagram Stories for those who follow there.

Right, now back to your dilemmas and this week, we are discussing how to perk up your utility or boot room to make it a nice place to spend time in (yes, it is possible). We’re talking about second hand sourcing, plus whether to go for a dressing room or en suite if you’re lucky enough to have the space. And finally, basic steps for upcycling a chest of drawers and my favourite Substack inspirational reads. You can READ ON by becoming a paid subscriber which means that not only do you receive four free posts a month but also a minimum of four EXTRA posts a month (including this weekly post) plus Chat threads so you can join our blossoming community and exclusive discount codes which are just for you. Plus, you’ll also be able to access my archive to read ALL of my past posts (including recipes and travel write ups) for the price of one Starbucks a month. I would thoroughly recommend it!
