It’s Sunday and I am currently away but if we are to go by the weather forecast, summer should definitely have hit the UK in a big way. There is something that is just SO great about coming down in the morning to sunshine and opening the skylights in my kitchen. Although these skylights often give me more than I bargain for as there’s a tree behind my house that likes to throw leaves and branches asunder, so it is not uncommon for me to throw the window open with abandon in order to have a load of leaves fall on to my head. Open windows can be carnage, fact. It’s been windy here in York and last week I dropped Ella and her friends to York Races in my open topped car in some serious gusts, so serious that at one point there was a crash and an actual branch fell out of a tree and landed on the back seat on top of one of Ellas friends. Honestly, you take your life in your hands on the hard streets of York.
My courtyard garden has, however, been loving this weather. From a stark mud pile but months ago, my plants now appear to be flourishing which is an unheard of occurence. The gypsophilia has bloomed, the verbena I planted in the big pot has reached almost to the top of the ground floor roof which is madness and even the wisteria looks like it has got some buds on it. Sadly, the clematis looks like it has already bitten the dust, despite being regularly watered, for reasons unknown. Half of the leaves have died and it has no new growth at all, much to my annoyance. Gardening is a double edged sword, for sure. It gives and takes away quicker than my children when they are after cash. Sigh.
Back to business and this week, we are looking at the how to style a room with bookshelves that has four doors access. We’re looking at practical log storage, built in and free standing, plus elevated picnic ideas that are no fuss but make the occasion super special. And finally, there’s an edit of coat hooks for the hallway that are neither cottage style nor industrial (a harder job than you’d think). Plus the Sunday Niche Edit focuses on floor standing magazine racks that will hold your collection of Livingetc with no bother at all.
