Design Dilemmas
Episode 61: This week we are discussing kitchen shelving and how to style it, plus making the most of a small space office. Plus non wood dining tables, filling a large wall and High Street kitchens.
This weekend, we have barely a plan in place and I am very much looking forward to it. Being mid houses in a rented property feels a little bit like being in limbo, but I’m not altogether complaining about it. There’s never anything to DO in the house, DIY wise, and we are not responsible for the upkeep so it’s a little bit liberating. There’s even astroturf in the garden so we don’t have to mow the lawn (although I did weed the front porch this week in a fit of guilt that we had our own weed border). If I don’t have any work to do, then my weekends are pretty much my own and now that the football season is over (PRAISE BE), then I’ve even got Joe to do things with. Last week we went for a walk and stopped for coffee and lunch. Prior to moving house, I think the last time we did that was 2001 at the big Tesco in Reading. So yes, no complaints, ha.
We’re also going our local theatre tonight which, rather fortuitously, is so close to our house that if someone was in the loo at the interval, we could run home and go to our own. It’s THAT close. It’s run entirely by volunteers, including the tiny bar which sells large glasses of wine and bags of Maltesers and there are no seat numbers, you just sit where you can. I absolutely LOVE it. We’re going to see comedian Lauren Pattison who has great reviews and then will be home afterwards within approximately one minute, in bed within five. This could possibly be Joe’s best night out ever, ha.
Okay so back to your dilemmas and this week, we’re kicking off with dining tables. If you don’t want a full on wood little number, then what are your options? We’re discussing ladder shelving styling in a kitchen and kitchen styling in general. Then we are headed to the home office and how to incorporate shed loads of stuff into a small space without it looking cluttered. Then we’re going back to kitchens - if you’re buying from a High Street designer then how can you get it right when you’re spending so much cash? And then finally we are looking at filling a white space in a kitchen (kitchens are a hot topic this week, but when are they not?) and options for doing so.
