Design Dilemmas
Episode 11: The Bathroom Edition. Talking today about tile choice, shower walls, peeling laminate, good vinyl flooring, tiling yourself and should you get out the paintbrush and paint them?
This week the sunshine has hit York and has made EVERYTHING feel better. The four day week has thrown up a few dilemmas, however, starting with Ella, my daughter being admitted to hospital with suspected appendicitis, worrying not just because it wasn’t very pleasant for her but also because her and her boyfriend, Lucas, are due to go on holiday to Greece on Saturday and there was a mass drama about whether or not they had remembered to take out holiday insurance. Luckily, her appendix turned out to be fine and they eventually discovered that last years insurance had two weeks left on it so all’s well that ends well. Alongside this debacle, my husband, Joe, had booked in to have his eye bags removed (cosmetic only, readers - the bonus of this is that he can never complain about my dermal injections ever again) and as Ella was texting me from the hospital saying she was stranded on a hospital trolley in the corridor, Joe was coming out of his procedure bearing more than a slight resemblance to Christ on the cross. SUCH STRESS.
This weekend, we are headed to Maidenhead to celebrate Joe’s mums birthday so I will be very much looking forward to relaxing whilst eating a lot of cake. All of Joe’s family will be there and I’m hoping that his eyes will have recovered sufficiently to drive the four hours down so that I don’t have to. As I write this, the forecast is predicting heady heights of 23 degrees which is practically summer. After my really quite stressful week, I cannot WAIT.
But back to interior quandaries and which of your dilemmas are we tackling this week? Let’s kick off with a bathroom special where we discuss how to choose a tile - go classic or go with the trend flow? The pro’s and con’s of shower/wet walls versus traditional tiles, plus where to find some good vinyl flooring to update a bathroom on a budget and is it possible to paint the tiles? How to fix peeling laminate and finally, should you give tiling a bash yourself or bring in the experts?
