Design Dilemmas
Episode 33: Sourcing Special. Simple side tables, non fabric shade wall light options, nice bedroom drawers, cook books for midweek ease and cabinets that ship to Australia. I am nothing if not niche.
As I write this, I have just dropped my son Max at York Races dressed in his suit with a four pack of Moretti. It’s the last race of the season and it’s absolutely POURING with rain and about ten degrees, the least clement weather in which to hang around a race course with a pint. Max is way more hardy than me. Should the situation be reversed, I would immediately cancel, put on my tracksuit and Ugg boots and sit on the sofa with the fire on. It doesn’t take much, in fairness, for me to avoid the races. I know that loads of people love going but I have never really enjoyed it much. Years ago, I once went on a work outing to Ascot on what was the hottest day of the summer. I drank too much prosecco, fell asleep on the mount grass and woke to find that not only had I sunburned my chest in the shape of my dress, but my now sister in law had disappeared for a curry with a policeman she’d met at the gate. Not my greatest day.
Anyway, I’m rushing to finish this as tonight we are going to Sandwich Night, a concept that my friend came up with last week where we all bring a different sandwich, complete with accompaniment and a bottle of something, before sampling the lot. I LOVE a themed evening, even more so when there is an element of competition. She has specifically stated that it is NOT a competition but this won’t stop any of us treating it as such, ha. Will report back next week as I can’t wait to see what everyone is making.
Okay, back to your quandaries and this week, I’ve taken five of your burning sourcing questions and looked at the things that you’re struggling to locate for your home. I asked my Chat group for their issues, plus added in what I’ve been messaged about on my Instagram feed this week and there are a LOT, so I’ll be back again with a Sourcing Special part deux in a few weeks.
