Design Dilemmas
Episode 50: This week we're discussing storage options, plus how to zone a large room that has multiple purposes. Plus cushion quandaries and how to acquire those sought after interior pieces.
This week, I’ve had my Mum visiting so we’ve been trawling the sights of York. I realised the other day that the York Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour actually goes past our house which sort of makes us part of the tourist trail. I like a bus tour; I always think you get way more information about a City whilst travelling on one than you’d get otherwise (we did it when we first moved here and it’s basically where all of my interesting York facts come from, ha). There’s a Ghost Bus in York too which also passes our front door. We have, despite living in York since 2013, never travelled the Ghost Bus, which enlightens visitors to some of the more gruesome elements of Yorks history. There’s Ghost Walking Tours too (yes, York likes a ghost) and, unsurprisingly, we have never done that either.
When we first moved here, we booked a cottage in Whitby for the week, the home of Whitby Castle which was the inspiration for Bram Stokers Dracula and THE MOST gothic town in the North Of England. The children were small - 11, 9 and 4 - and the Whitby Ghost Walk stopped outside our cottage every night, much to their amusement. That poor Ghost Walk Tour Leader. They’d wait at the window for him to stop to recount his scary facts before putting pillowcases over their heads, throwing open the curtains and booing at him whilst his walking party looked on askance. Honestly, the shame of it.
But enough of my badly behaved kids and back to your quandaries and this week, we’re discussing a five varied subjects which have come via my lovely subscribers and my Instagram DM box. Let’s start with hallway storage, the bain of the life of many. How to zone a large room that has multi purpose plus how to acquire those sought after investment pieces for your home without feeling the pinch. And finally, cushions. How to add some pattern into a neutral themed living room and more importantly, how to style them without resorting to the chop.
