This week heralded the beginning of the school summer holidays and I admit, I am always quite relieved. No dragging a child out of bed, no making packed lunches and no trying to make sure they go to sleep at 10pm. These are words that would never have passed my lips when my children were small - juggling work with primary aged kids was a pure endurance test. And also, bloody expensive. Not just from a childcare aspect (although I was lucky to be home based) but from the sheer expense of entertainment. There is only so many days that you can amuse your kids at home and I admit, I was not one to be donning a painting apron or making my own Playdough. I failed miserably at parental group activities too so often, the only option was to hit the soft play where I spent the entire time trying to keep track of them without actually having to get on the equipment myself, escorting them to the toilet so that they weren’t at risk of abduction and paying £342.50 for a lunch snack box for them at the outrageously overpriced cafe. Those were the days.

Now, my youngest child Leo is 15 and the only one remaining at secondary school. When the holidays start, he commonly rises at around 1pm daily after staying up with his friends playing FIFA until 3am, comes downstairs in his pants to eat toast whilst watching TikTok before announcing he’s a) going to the football pitches or b) going into York to hang around in Museum Gardens. He returns home on the bus around 8pm to announce he’s not requiring dinner as he’s already eaten a McDonalds, before coming downstairs at midnight to eat more toast. I am quite looking forward to going on our family holiday so that I can see him at mealtimes, tbh.

Right, now back to your dilemmas and this week we are tackling some common quandaries. From how to plan out your bedroom through to how you should style the bed space. We’re discussing how NOT to have the kids toys take over your living space and whether or not to get the professionals in when it comes to fitted furniture. And finally, is it possible to have too MUCH white in your home?
