Good morning and I am writing this on Saturday as I have failed dismally to get it written this week due to having to finally vacuum my house of dust. I have held off doing this, under the heading of ‘why do it when it’s just going to get dusty again’ and as a result, we have lived in conditions that could feasibly be mistaken for scenes from The Last Of Us (sadly without Pedro, although I am hoping he will pop up on Raya under the ‘looking for friends’ category as I KNOW that we would be besties). My own bedroom is actually the worst, with dust balls in excess of 30cm width and I wake at nights coughing due to floating particles as I sleep with my mouth open. Anyway, I blitzed it yesterday due to the kids coming home for the weekend and it looks a lot better.

The top floor (the loft rooms ) are by far the worst. For reasons unknown, there is a black carpet going up the very thin staircase that leads to Leo’s room. Anyone who has a British Shorthair Cat will know that black polyester carpets and massive fluffies do not go together - even Henry Hoover struggled to get the fur out. Also, due to the slippy polyester I have fallen down these stairs no less than three times since moving in and had to ban my 81 year old Mum climbing them when she visited this week for fear that she’d topple. In the spare room at the top where Ella stays, there is my full collection of house plants which are staying there until I can work out how to stop them marking the brand new floor downstairs (any advice or ideas about this would be appreciated, btw). So far, there have been no casualties and they have all survived although the massive monstera is going to need a hell of a lot of TLC when it returns to the living room. I can’t WAIT to bring them all out again, I miss them, although the Christmas tree is satisfying my greenery urges this month.

But back to the point and this week, we are looking at a subscriber dilemma with three wall lights and indecision about styles. There’s a reader who has inherited crystal chandeliers from a previous owner of her Edwardian home and wants to ditch them for something less glitzy. Tree trends - are they a thing? Can we follow them without spending loads of cash? And stylish outdoor Christmas lighting that isn’t a reindeer (don’t hate on me, reindeer lovers) and the Sunday Niche Edit, which this week focuses on Christmas plates (am really pushing the Christmas theme this month, be warned).
