Design Dilemmas
Episode 12: The one where we talk about furniture painting, faux plants, big rugs under sofas and how to dress a bed using two single duvets. Plus outdoor tableware that you can't smash.
This week, I have mostly been working whilst trying to put on the right outfit daily to suit the weather. Sandals? Trainers? Coat? No coat? Who knows? I went into York yesterday for a press event to see a sky as dark as the night at midday. One minute the car roof is down and I’m feeling the rays, the next I’m being soaked to the skin whilst running to the bin shed. Although, readers, I have to say that on Tuesday I went into London to film a campaign and it was colder in Waterloo than it was in York. FACT. Ever since we have lived in the North of England, I have been subjected to my mum expressing her shocked disbelief that we even have sunshine North of Watford, let alone a vague hint of warmth. As a born and bred southerner, I can confirm that yes, it is usually a degree or so colder the further up you come but it’s still clement enough for a t-shirt, often even a vest, occasionally even a sundress. It’s warm up North, people, I promise.
But back to dilemmas and this week I have been debating whether or not to get my eyebrows done. It’s been on my mind for no less than six years and by the time you read this, the deed will have been done (should I choose to go ahead obvs - I am very prone to mind changing, haunted by visions of black eyebrow slugs so heavy that they would weigh my eyelids down). My eyebrows are exceptionally thin, mostly due to plucking to oblivion when a teenager but also to having had chemotherapy which managed to blitz them out altogether, pretty much. After drawing them in for years (very badly, actually, and often not even bothering), I have decided that the time has come to do something about it so watch this space. I’ll report back, worry not.
But back to interior quandaries and which of your dilemmas are we tackling this week? We’re starting with painting furniture and what paint to use, a very regular dilemma into my DM box. Next, we are looking at dressing a bed that has two single quilts (I VERY much am into this idea), then the very best in faux plants and where to buy them. Then finally big rugs and where to put them plus where to source outdoor tableware that cannot be smashed by careless family members.
