Design Dilemmas
Episode 81. This week, discussing vertical slat walls, showers in front of windows and comfortable dining chairs. Plus budget yet effective tile solutions and the Sunday Niche Edit.
Today, I am planning to take all of my plants (currently located on a sheet of tarpaulin in the spare bedroom) and put them in the shower, one by one. I have mentioned before about how ingrained with brick dust they are and as far as I can see, this is the only option to get them back in the game. I didn’t realise quite how many plants I own - and they’re ALL huge - until I had to collate them all in one place and I also seem to have an extreme amount of cacti. This is quite apt as I am feeling quite prickly at the moment - ha - but I have managed to whack quite a few of them walking up the stairs and I had no idea that they ‘bleed’ when damaged. I have a huge cowboy cactus that I bought from the garden centre which has grown beautifully and now is about 5ft tall, but it’s super temperamental and starting oozing sticky white stuff when I managed to knock a bough (or whatever you call a cactus arm). I fear they are not going to survive this renovation and even if they do, may never recover. Pray for me that they can hang on for another month.
As I write this, I have just found Buddy with a large baguette in his mouth after he raided the ‘kitchen’ area in my bedroom. Currently, my bedroom is a Jack Of All Trades and the animals are treating it as if it’s an M&S Food Hall. Nothing is safe. No plate, no bowl, no empty Dairylea Dunker gets past them. I stupidly left an empty pot of prawn cocktail on the microwave and before I knew it, Flo had whisked it away to her lair (currently under a chair which is position on a rug on the spare room bed with another rug on top of it. FML). It’s Friday and after having no less than nine workmen in the house today, all who liked tea with milk and sugar, I am totally over any sort of food or drink preparation and am about to open a bottle of wine and order pizza for dinner to the dulcet tones of Gary Oldman in series 5 of Slow Horses. An unlikely Friday night companion, I know, but he’ll do for me with a thin Meat Feast.
But back to business and today, we are discussing vertical slat walls - yes or no? Plus how to deal with showers in front of windows and comfortable dining chairs. How to tile a small shower room on a budget but still keep it looking luxe and this weeks Sunday Niche Edit is all about jute runners and there are some good ones.
