Last Friday,

Kate Watson-Smyth
and I shared a Live where we talked all about art - what to do with it, where to find it and how to hang it (amongst other things). It was great fun to do and we’re going to do one of these a month going forward for all subscribers where we’ll focus on one subject (taking additional questions in advance from our audiences) and then summarise the key points and info afterwards for our paid subscribers. An excellent plan, we thought. Lots of you joined in and stayed for the hour long duration which was AMAZING, thank you to all of you who came. We’re going to call these monthly chats On The House and we’d love to hear from you with any ideas about subjects going forward - please add below!

Let's Talk About Art

Thank you to everyone who joined us! Hope that you all found it useful and if you have any ideas about what you’d like us to discuss in next months chat, please add below!

Okay, so back to the subject and, predictably, KWS and I had a lot to say about art and a lot of tips which we hope that you found useful. I’ve taken what we discussed and summarised it with links to websites and some really great independent artists and makers that you need to know about. Plus some top hanging tips, where to find good frames and how to avoid the ‘fast fashion’ interior prints and invest in smaller pieces that don’t cost the earth.

And if you listened in, I’m hoping that your main take away was that art is what YOU make it. I wrote a post when I very first started sharing here on Substack about how to find affordable pieces and how if you love it, then it works for you. The definition of good art is that ‘it can illustrate a thought or feeling in a way that words simply cannot’. Note this doesn’t mention price, provenance or style - it’s what appeals to your own eye that makes it worthy, not others. Here are Kate and I’s top tips on adding to your home.

This post is for paid subscribers but you can upgrade for the price of a coffee! You’ll get an eight extra posts every month plus my entire archive including tonnes of recipes and travel write ups. I would thoroughly recommend! PLUS, there’s a long list of independent artists in the back of my book, Resourceful Living - if you become an annual paid subscriber/upgrade to annual subscription TODAY then I’ll send you a signed copy of my book so you can take full advantage of it (if you’re a current monthly subscriber and upgrade then do message me to let me know!).
