A Very Easy Midweek Dinner For My Friends
An Election Day menu that involved barely any preparation for six people with a suffragette dress code that was barely stuck to and included a box of Milk Tray.
Last week, I decided it had been a while since I had seen my girlfriends for one to one chat without outside influences so I invited them all over for a midweek dinner. I am a big fan of a midweek dinner, mostly because no one really wants to go to bed too late if they’ve got work the next day so they’re all happy to arrive early, thus meaning that my Sleep App stays on track. I know, I know. In the old days of my early youth, I would go to Camden Palace until 2am on a Wednesday when I had school the next day and wake up feeling as fresh as a daisy. I would head to Slap Harrys in Piccadilly and drink eight Harvey Wallbangers for Happy Hour on a Monday and not even have a headache the next day. Those days, my friends, have disappeared into the annals of time. Now I only have to look at a glass of Vina Sol to have a hot sweat at 3am.
I set the date for dinner without realising it was, in fact, Election Day. Unable to let this historic day go without recognition, we decided that we would all dress in the colours of the suffragette movement - purple, green and white (I can never hear the word ‘suffragette’ without thinking of Lord Flasheart). However, the only person who stuck to the dress code was my friend Sam who arrived dressed head to toe as Emmeline Pankhurst (although to be fair, Ruth made a token effort and brought a box of Milk Tray).
Anyway, we had a great time - I even made menu cards (yes, it was a quiet day) - and the food all went to plan, so I thought I would do a recap of it here for you as it really was extremely simple.
