A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie
What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including huge candles, wine stoppers, excellent therapy, women who shout at each other, vintage buys and Lidl meltdowns.
As I write this, I am currently on a train to Reading to visit my mother in law, Judith, for the day. Ella is on a similar train from Manchester and is totally delighted as I introduced her to the joy of Seatfrog and she got an upgrade for a tenner. When you’re on a train for almost four hours, free tea, coffee and biscuits is invaluable. Although it’s now 7.30am and I’ve already had three Viennese Whirls and a lemon drizzle cake - let’s hope the lemon counts towards my five a day. Since I started renovating, I cannot remember when I’ve had five a day except when we went for Sunday lunch at the pub. My urge to be cooking again is SO strong and I think it’s only now a matter of weeks before I am back in the culinary game. I announced to the kids at the weekend that I could not wait for the oven to be installed so that I can make a roast dinner, at which point they reminded me that I NEVER make roast dinners and they couldn’t even remember a time that I did except when I went to M&S and bought all preprepared vegetables. Pedantics, semantics, etc.
Apparently, today is the day that the weather starts to get cold. It was 2 degrees when I got on the train at York this morning wearing my UGG clogs. You might recall that I invested in these right back at the start of September and honestly, I have barely worn anything else. They are a step up from my footwear of choice last year, the UGG Tasman, which do look like actual slippers but if anyone says anything or looks at you wrong you can just shout ‘IT’S FASHION, LOVE, GET OVER IT’ which I did (in my head) on multiple occasions when visiting the supermarket. The UGG clogs are a whole different ballgame, with thick soles and a big Velcro strap at the back for easy wear and removal. Yes, this does make them sound like something from an advert in the Daily Mail supplements that you’d pay for by post with a cheque or postal order but I promise you, they’re cool. Trust me. Anyway, they’re warm as toast so would highly recommend for the incoming freeze.
But back to my List Of Joie and this week, there is a varied selection of items to tell you about, from the vocal London ‘elite’ to massive candles at a bargain price. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after in the last fortnight.
