A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie
What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including Vinted jewels, tubular shelves, brown things, cool kettles, expensive knobs, excessive gore and stylish French women.
Things are heating up here in Yorkshire as a week or so ago, we got the keys to our new home and started to make changed to our new home. I say ‘we’ here but obviously I mean ‘I’. Joe has been to the house twice in ten days, whereas I have been twice daily (at least). His forte is not in the creative zone, it has to be said, and he struggles to see how it is going to come together, although he totally denies this. Every now and then he will make an attempt to say something design inspired but it is almost always based around either a) plug point locations for technical items or b) spotlights, for which I have a tolerance level of -10. The only place I am allowing the spotlights to remain is in the attic rooms, mostly because they are on a slant and there isn’t room to put a pendant but also, because I won’t be going up there very often as that space will be Leo’s bedroom and Joe’s office. Today the builder came to check out the kitchen and he actually inadvertently laughed when I told him that it would be a spotlight free zone. They’re all going to need to get with the programme, quite frankly. Ha.
There have been decorators in this week stripping off two rooms full of wallpaper which has been there at least 60 years. I was totally terrified that it was holding the walls up and that without it, the whole house would crumble, but no. It’s taking them time but it’s coming off, leaving a room that looks like a derelict crack den. There are holes to be knocked in for fireplaces and a door to be sealed up before the lining paper can cover the carnage so with a move in date of 7 July, it’s going to be a while of living there before it starts to look more salubrious. I’m not sure even my Togo sofa can carry off this look in the meantime, but needs must.
But back to the point and amidst the new house excitement, I’ve still managed to cram a lot in alongside an abundance of celebratory sparkling wine and crisps. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after in the last fortnight.
