A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie
What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including tapas dinners, shell sinks, gingham mini dresses, average horrors, avocado plants, poo cruises and Jeremy Allen White.
In two days time, I am going to Ibiza for three days with Joe and two friends and the timing is almost genius. I say this ironically, but actually, I am so knackered from packing boxes and running up and down five stories of stairs that it could possibly be that a mini break in the sun is EXACTLY what I need. I have a list of Things To Do before we go on Thursday morning which include things such as, buy food for children and animals. Move boxes so that coving man can access the ceiling. Stack storage boxes in eaves cupboards so that carpet can be laid. Fill in holes and touch up walls where I have hung art in the rental house. Clean oven. Take the dog to groomer. Take down curtains and replace with half mast ones that were here when we arrived. Iron Leo’s Prom shirt and make sure he has a sleeping bag for the all night after party that he’ll be at whilst we are at Cafe Mambo. Yes, this has disaster written ALL over it.
It was rather unfortunate that Leo’s Prom is occurring on the same day that we board a flight for the sunshine; this trip was booked almost a year ago after a dinner party where we all lamented the fact that we wouldn’t be able to go on holiday for ages due to GCSE’s. So we went online and booked so that we’d have something to look forward to, with no knowledge that the school were also planning the party of the year on the same night. From a parenting perspective, this puts us fairly low on the Great Parent leaderboard; in fact, it’s probably kicked us right off it. I did offer to cancel (half heartedly, if I’m being honest) but the fact is that our only role that evening will be to drop him off, take a photo of him and then be unceremoniously asked to leave before we becoming embarrassing so I think he’ll survive. Praise be for Max, my elder son, who is taking responsibility on our behalf and delivering him to Prom, monitoring his location for the night and making sure he survives the course. See, there’s a good reason for having multiple kids. Also, I’ve promised them both Duty Free aftershave so they’re perfectly mollified.
Right, back to business and there has been much this past fortnight to report back on. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after in the last fortnight.
