A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie

What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including Steve Carrell, good books, excellent skirts, notecards, vintage islands, parm chips and a one pot curry of dreams.

It was a rather busy weekend which started with the most astonishingly good weather and chilled wine in the garden here in York and ended with sideways wind rain and the fire on. I am trying really hard to take Fridays off and not work and last week was a good one; my friend came for the afternoon and we zoomed around York in my car checking out the local second hand shops and vintage stores. Really, if I could spend every Friday doing this for the foreseeable future I’d be a very happy woman. We even dropped in to the huge Neptune on the A64, the one that looks like you could move in if you had a suitcase with you. Those Neptune stores are SO clever - it’s impossible to walk round them without wanting to transform your entire home. I once dragged my children round and even they came out fuming that our home didn’t look like the perfect rooms in store. Sandra and I spent far too much time oohing and aahing over a drinks cupboard which we had nowhere to put.

On Sunday my daughter, Ella, ran the 10k Race For Life at York Racecourse. It is BEYOND my comprehension that my children actively enjoy running; sometimes I am not even sure that they belong to me. I was feeling slightly under the weather and made an uncharacteristic decision to take the dog who immediately relieved himself upon arrival, at which point I realised I had forgotten to bring poo bags. It was so windy that the rain was like sleet in my face - luckily, Ella is quite speedy so I didn’t have to stay for long and came home to lie prostrate on the sofa for the rest of the afternoon. I really need to avoid such excessive weekend activities.

But enough of my lack of sportiness (although I am going for a Pilates one to one this week so I’ll let you know how that goes) and let’s get back to my list of Joie and there is much to be found in this weeks round up. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after.
