A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie

What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including ceramic art, chicken recipes, nice earrings, fries with toppings, paste ups, Amishesque nightdresses and Tom Hardy.

As I write this, it’s Tuesday and I am in full on recovery mode from the long weekend. My sister Annabel and her family arrived last Wednesday night at 9pm and we made the immediate and predictable mistake of getting carried away at the excitement of being together, scoffed a full cheeseboard, drank too much wine and went to bed at 2am. Yes, 2am. I can’t even explain what we were thinking but the fact was that we weren’t; there was no time to think as we were too busy talking. When you don’t see each other that often there’s a LOT to catch up on. This set the tone for the following three days and by the time we reached Friday night dinner, I had become delirious with tiredness. I managed to lose the remains of Annabels homemade baklava cheesecake (it was very good) and didn’t find it until Monday when I discovered it inexplicably wrapped in the freezer. One late night and I’m RUINED, I tell you.

Anyway, I’m back in the game today and am pushing through to the weekend when we have virtually no plans at all which are, of course, the best sort of plans. Leo is playing football in his Cup Final on Saturday which heralds the end of the football season (I can’t even pretend to be not happy about this fact - in fact, I’m almost ecstatic that my living room will no longer reverberate with the yells of whatever random team are playing on screen). We’re going to Manchester on Sunday morning as my eldest son, Max, is running his first marathon in aid of Pancreatic Cancer. Yes, a full marathon! Has he done one before? No. Has he got an achilles injury that he says he’s recovered from? Yes. Has he ever run further than 15k to this point? No. Is he full of confidence that it’ll be a piece of piss? Yes. GOD HELP US. I’m going to be tracking him every single inch of the way on Life 360 and may well even attempt to run behind him in my Gazelles to ensure he survives the course.

But enough of overconfident 21 year olds and let’s get back to my list of Joie and there is much to be found in this weeks round up. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after.
