A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie

What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including vintage matchboxes, unattractive yet tasty frittatas, tea towels too nice to use, ruffle dresses and Adam Brody. Obvs.

Good morning and a GOOD MORNING it is indeed here in York. My house is looking unusually tidy, mostly because we have had a few viewings in the last weeks and as a result, everything is in its place. This doesn’t happen often. I spend the majority of my life moving JD Sports bags out of the hall (what is it about teenage boys and their passion for these carrier duffel bags?) and dog toys from every corner (Buddy is a big fan of taking a toy, dumping it and wandering off) so the opportunity to make it pristine is actually very therapeutic. There is not a lot better than walking back into your house after a viewing knowing that every single thing is neat and tidy, that there are no unflushed toilets, no toast crumbs, no washing to put away and that even the cat litter is freshly changed. It’s the little things.

This week I started a Christmas board on Pinterest. I have a few Christmas boards. As with many things in my life, I often enjoy the planning and preparation of events more than the actual events themselves, ha. The gift wrapping, the present buying, the planning of the tree, the (limited) house decor. Over the years, I have stopped going hardcore on the room decor - I think I killed it for myself during lockdown when we were home bound and unable to visit our family in the South. I ordered tens of faux greenery boughs and endless metres of fairy light, stringing over every doorway and up the stairs, plus a full sized tree in every room (even the kitchen). It was festive overload but it did the job. However, it has totally put me off Christmas excess so my room decor now is mainly focused on a tree and a mantel garland. Less is more post lockdown. Last year I went full on ribboned bough tree - this year, I am still contemplating. The fun bit is finding the inspiration and coming up with the ideas, I always think.

Okay, back to my list and there are plenty of things that have brought the joie over the last few weeks. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after.
