A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie

What I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including premature wash stands, lovely tea towels, lace maxi slips, crisps with toppings and newly separated French men.

I know it’s SO boring to start a post talking about the weather but woah, this week is a good one. Allegedly, temperatures are going to hit 21 degrees this week EVEN IN THE NORTH. It is not often that our temperatures here in York meet those of London but this week, records will be broken. Talking of breaking, I broke the news to Joe that we have guests visiting and staying every single weekend of this month, which he took quite well, actually. We manage to get away with very few visitors in the colder months but come the sunshine, it’s all change. Especially since now we have moved into the centre of York so our house can be used as a base for more fun stuff. The benefit of not living in the countryside is that there is less work for me when visitors come due to the proximity of bars and restaurants. An excellent development.

Anyway, this weekend we have Joe’s sister, Louise and her husband Richard visiting and I have already planned it all out. This weekend is York Open Studios where local artists and creatives open their homes to the public for viewings and it is SO good. Is so interesting to see people in their working environments and also, to be able to see multiple homes and be nosy, ha. First on my list is the really quite amazing home of local artist Mark Hearld which is just the other side of Micklegate (perfectly located to have breakfast prior at Partisan) - I visited last year and honestly, it’s an experience in itself. The Guardian did a write up about it - click here to look and be amazed.

I would highly recommend visiting some of the 160 artist on the list - last year I ended up with a new piece of art and some ceramics so I’ll keep you updated. Will be leaving Joe and Richard at home for this one to watch whatever boring as hell sporting activity is gracing Sky Sports. Sometimes I feel as if my entire home based existence is focused around the footballing fixtures; my mood influenced by my male weighted family as to whether or not Sheffield Wednesday are managing to kick the ball in the right direction. Sigh.

Anyway, enough sporting bemoaning and let’s get back to my list of Joie and luckily there is much to be found in this weeks round up. Here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after.
