A Short List Of Things Bringing Joie

Some random musings - what I've watched, bought, worn, eaten, read and lusted after this week including excellent red dresses, Vinted winnings, fluffy cushions, scary heads and Jake Gyllenhaal.

This week, I’ve moved into holiday countdown. Yes, it is slightly early since we don’t actually go until Saturday but this balmy weather is making me long for the beach and large cold glasses of rose and small plates of prawns, so getaway mode has been activated early. I’m struggling - already - not to crack open the wine and crisps at 4pm, even though I am still working at my desk. I do actually think that we have so few decent sunny days in this country that my brain automatically links warm sunshine to the glugging of a bottle of Vina Sol. I’m also making my family eat everything in the fridge rather than buy more food, dragging out all the freezer stuff that they consistently ignore (there’s a frozen gammon and pineapple that has been vetoed for many months, possibly even years) and refusing to buy any fruit in case they don’t eat it before Saturday. And I can’t even count the times that the words ‘this time next week….’ have been spoken. I’ve even told the Postman. Excitement levels are HIGH.

Anyway, every year that we go away I aim to create a capsule wardrobe and every year, I fail. This year, I KNOW I am going to do it. I am 100% sure of it. I’ve been thinking and planning what to pack for weeks - I’ve even bought some suitcase packing cubes although in fairness, I haven’t opened them yet and am not sure how they work, but I did see someone on Instagram using them and they looked efficient. I am always here for efficiency, even if I often fail in the process. I have decided to go ALL dresses and nothing else which will turn out to be either a) brave and successful or b) a complete failure and I'll wish I’d brought shorts. Will keep you updated on my success rate.

This post is for paid subscribers but you can upgrade for the price of a coffee! You’ll get a minimum of four extra posts every month plus my entire archive including tonnes of recipes and travel write ups. I would thoroughly recommend!

Anyway, here’s a little run down of what I’ve watched, bought, worn, read, eaten and lusted after this week. PS: regular readers will know that this is the post formerly known as Thoughts For A Friday. I have decided bombarding you with three posts three days on the trot was a bit much so I’ve moved it to alternate Wednesdays to minimise the spam effect.
