Design Dilemmas
Episode 19: The Garden Edition. Plants to fill spaces, garden kitchens and making an outdoor room feel cosy. Plus, decking vs tiles and the most beautiful non rattan sun loungers.
I’ve spent quite a lot of time in the garden this week and, thanks to the excessive rain this year, it’s really looking quite flourishing. The hydrangeas are having their best year yet - I have white ones on one side of the lawn and pink and purple on the other (apparently this is due to something to do with soil, I hear) and I’ve been chopping them for vases and distributing them around the house. There’s also been a slight disaster with the wisteria which, although has bloomed this year for the first time ever, appears to have fallen off the wall where it was held on with a wire, leaving it trailing across the rose bush making it a task of utter thorn prick hell to fix the situation. Urgh.
In other news, we are heading to the pub this afternoon to watch England play (by the time you read this, their fate will be known so fingers crossed that they don’t manage to f**k it all up as is the norm). We went last week, to a central York pub with a big outdoor screen - they’d moved a bar outside so that you didn’t have to veer from the screen in order to get a drink in a plastic cup. I wore my red Adidas trousers which I thought was very patriotic of me, although England scored both times that I went to the loo which means that my friends now consider my attendance bad luck. Despite having a family who are lifelong Sheffield Wednesday fans (they even have season tickets), I am not a football person but I always do love the atmosphere and the camaraderie of watching England play. I’ll be putting my trousers back on and holding a plastic pint of bad wine by 4pm, for sure.
