Design Dilemmas
Episode 16: Let's talk large impact house plants, small bathroom colours and marble coffee tables that don’t require a mortgage. Plus new build decor and how to plan the perfect pied a terre.
It’s been a rainy week in Yorkshire. I feel like that only conversation I have been having recently is how horrific the weather is, so much so that I am starting to bore myself. I have persevered, however, with the sandals and am refusing to wear a coat of any sort because, readers, it is JUNE. Never before in now nine years we have lived in this house has the heating come on in the morning in the Summer and I’ve even been tempted to light the fire. The garden furniture that I set up last month is looking nice and damp (possibly even mouldy) and according to the ten day weather forecast (yes, I have become very invested in this subject) it will be like this indefinitely. On the plus side, I had a very nice pedicure this week so that my feet are ready for Summer, whenever that chooses to arrive. Honestly.
In other news, Leo has commenced his end of year exams (he’s in Year 10 which generally means nothing to me as I was educated during the years of 1-5 and then sixth form, but I think it’s equivalent to 4th form) and only told me on Monday that they were this very week. The more children I have had, the less efficient I have been in monitoring their school work or, in fact anything they are doing which has most certainly worked to Leo’s benefit. He had English Literature mocks today and alleged that he had done some flash cards about Romeo and Juliet but I admit, I have seen no proof of studying. Next year is GCSE’s so I need to swing into parental action ASAP and get with the programme. Sigh.
Right, back to your dilemmas and this week, we have a selection of quandaries that cover all bases. From what colour to paint a downstairs loo with only one spotlight, through to how to design a new build space when you can’t put anything on the walls for a year (a fact I did not even realise). Plus investing in a marble coffee table when you don’t have a deluxe budget, planning a small space in which to push your creative boundaries and finally, large plants to fill spaces that aren’t hard to manage.
